1. What is a chiller?
An industrial chiller is a refrigeration system used to lower the temperature of machinery, industrial sites, and process fluids by removing heat from the system and transferring it elsewhere. Industrial coolers are critical for temperature regulation in several industrial processes such as injection molding, metal plating, oil field production, and food processing.

The working principle of industrial chiller is as follows:
1. Phase change
Liquid coolants undergo a phase change to gas when heated, and gaseous coolants condense back to liquid when supercooled.
2. Heat flow
Thermal energy always flows from areas of high concentration to areas of lower concentration.
3. Boiling point
Reducing the pressure on a liquid lowers its boiling point, and increasing the pressure increases its boiling point.
2. How does the chiller work?
A chiller consists of four basic components: evaporator, compressor, condenser and expansion unit. Each chiller system contains refrigerant.
The process begins with low-pressure refrigerant entering the evaporator. Inside the evaporator, the refrigerant is heated so that it undergoes a phase change and becomes a gas. Gaseous refrigerant enters the compressor, increasing its pressure.
The high-pressure refrigerant enters the condenser, which uses cooling water from the cooling tower or air from the surrounding environment to remove heat and condense it into a high-pressure liquid. The condensed refrigerant then enters the expansion unit, which has a valve that acts as a metering device to restrict the flow of refrigerant in the system.
So, this reduces the pressure of the refrigerant and starts the cooling process again. The whole process is called the refrigeration cycle.
