Why Does The Condenser in The Chiller Form Scale?

If the chiller is used in the industry, it is easy to form scale in the condenser pipeline. If it is not dealt with in time, these scales will affect the heat exchange effect, resulting in an increase in the condensing temperature of the unit, which in turn leads to a decrease in the cooling capacity and an increase in the power consumption of the unit. The main reason for the formation of scale is actually that the calcium and magnesium ions in the cooling water crystallize and precipitate in the form of salt when heated and condense on the inner wall of the copper pipe; the metal oxidation products of the system pipeline; the slime caused by bacteria and algae, etc. Therefore, the condenser of the chiller should be cleaned frequently, and the cleaning time can be determined according to the water quality and scaling, but at least once a year. Let's take a closer look at the two main methods of chemical cleaning and physical cleaning to remove scale.

 

Chemical cleaning method: mainly use cleaning solution for cleaning, first cleaning with acid solution, then neutralizing cleaning with alkali solution, and finally rinsing with water to rinse acid and alkali solution.

 

1. Add the cleaning liquid to the cooling water system in a certain proportion, and turn on the cooling pump to circulate for 12-24 hours. The sediment layer is continuously dissolved and dropped by the chemical action and scouring action of the cleaning liquid. However, this method requires a lot of cleaning potions and is costly.

 

2. Connect a circulating pump and a pipeline between the cleaning liquid storage tank and the condenser to form a closed loop, so that the cleaning liquid can be continuously circulated for 12-24 hours to dissolve and fall off the sediment.

 

3. Mix the cleaning liquid in a certain proportion, add it to the condenser and let it stand for 5-10 hours to soften and dissolve the sediment, drain the cleaning liquid, and rinse with clean water.

 

The advantage of chemical cleaning is that the scale is removed completely, which can reduce the workload of workers. Therefore, when carrying out chemical cleaning, we must pay attention to the proportion of solution, circulation and soaking time to prevent the condenser from being corroded.

 

Physical cleaning method: mainly use soft shaft brush to clean. The flexible shaft is driven by the motor of the cleaning machine. There is a nylon brush in front of the flexible shaft. When in use, the flexible shaft and the brush are inserted into the copper tube of the condenser, and the brush in the copper tube is removed by the high-speed rotating brush. Dirt, and finally rinse with water, this machine is also known as the gun machine.

 

The advantage of physical cleaning is that it saves the cost of chemical cleaning solution, avoids the disposal of waste liquid after chemical cleaning, and is not easy to cause corrosion of the condenser copper tube. The disadvantage is that the cleaning effect is not good for hard scale and corrosion products with strong adhesion. Yes, and the cleaning operation is time-consuming and labor-intensive.

 

If there is excessive hard scale on the condenser, a combination of chemical cleaning and physical cleaning can be used. Soak the condenser with cleaning liquid first, and then use physical cleaning method to remove the scale after the scale is softened.
