How to antifreeze industrial chillers in winter? Antifreeze protects equipment from low ambient temperatures and freezing process conditions. If the chiller is in a freezing environment, the chiller system must be protected. Here to tell you how to antifreeze your industrial chiller.
Why do industrial chillers need antifreeze?
When winter comes, the ambient temperature is too low, which may cause ice to form in the circulating cooling water pipe of the industrial chiller, and the density of ice is less than that of water, so when it freezes, the volume will expand. In closed volumes, copper tubes and heat exchanger housings can freeze, crack or deform due to the action of ice. In order to make the chiller run smoothly in winter and avoid irreversible damage to the equipment caused by the low temperature environment, we remind all users to carry out relevant antifreeze work.
How to protect industrial chillers from freezing?
In order for the chiller to survive the winter and avoid irreparable damage to the equipment caused by the low temperature environment, the equipment must be drained in time. Such as chillers, pipelines, pumps, cooling towers and terminals, when the ambient temperature is below zero, the water must be drained beforehand.
The following are some winter drainage measures for chillers.
1. Condenser: Open the end cap on the other end of the water pipe. After opening, please pay attention to unscrew the end cover and screws. (Remember: do not do this with the evaporator drain hole!)
2. Evaporator: Open the drain valve below the evaporator connection to drain all water. It's best to keep the blowdown valve open in the winter and shut off the water supply before starting the machine the following year.
3. Pipes and pumps: Drain water from pipes and pumps to the lowest point.
4. Cooling Tower: Open the drain valve on the lowest portion of the cooling tower pan to drain the enclosure.
5. End: There is a blowdown valve on the bottom of the coil and the blowdown valve is also open. The drain valve is normally open in winter.
The pump must be kept running, day or night, and must be drained if it has not been used for an extended period of time. In case of bad weather (temperature below -10 ° C), it is better to stop draining and add antifreeze to the water.
